Art Docent

Art Docent Program

What is the Art Docent program?

Funded entirely by Mill Creek Elementary PTA, the Art Docent program at Mill Creek Elementary is the only formal art instruction our students receive. We are thrilled to introduce our students to new techniques like mosaics, pottery, large scale cooperative art installations and artivism. Our hope is to cultivate excitement, help students learn about a range of art forms & inspire new young artists. We will introduce a diverse range of artists – classic artists like Jacob Lawrence & Ezra Jack Keats to modern artists Sonia King & Tan Zi Xi.

How important is Art in our Classroom?

  • Students who study art are 4x more likely to be recognized for academic achievement
  • Proven to improve attendance and test scores
  • Helps promote social development, creativity, reasoning skills & students’ self worth
  • Art helps develop an awareness in children of the different traditions and cultures around the world
